Cesena (FC)

In the province of Forli-Cesena has estimated area of 25.000 hectares of growing field: 15.000 for fruit farming and 10.000 for vegetables farming.
The most common farm products include: peaches, apricots, plums, strawberries, kiwis, apples, pears and lots of different types of cherries as well as potatoes, beans, peas, lettuce, chicory leaves, turnip, tomatoes, giant cardoons and purple artichokes from Romagna.

While some of these cultivations are fully exploited, some others have become local or niche farming: the Shallot of Romagna for example obtained the PGI certification (Protected Geographical Indication).
This farming tradition dates back in time in the history of this region. Peach trees have been grown since the 14th century and has lead to the growing of the famous nectarine peach. Strawberries used to be a wild berry but has become a widely and intensively grown in the Cesena area.
Cherries were firstly introduced by Romans and grown since the Earliest Middle Ages, mostly in the Bidente river valley, where they still are one of the most important farm products. There are several varieties of cherries: moretta, durona, durella, corniola, duroncina, primaticcia, marciana...

Our pears, peaches, and the nectarine peaches have obtained the PGI certification.
All the other products mentioned are part of the National list of  traditional products form the province of Forlì - Cesena.
